A small extension to an existing office and residence in Cologne. The client required a new working and living space to be inserted in a narrow portion of the sites existing driveway.

Our proposal creates a new courtyard and entry by inserting a double floor volume. An open connection joins the existing building with the new addition, closing the back of the entry courtyard.

The flexible plan can be arranged as either living/working space on both levels. The buildings house facing facade is tilted to allow more light to enter the courtyard space.

Timber framed and clad, the structure is raised on concrete bearers with one large opening on the facade and a skylight above the stairs.
